A man has suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash between two cars in Leicestershire.

Police were called to Moira Road, in Shellbrook, near Ashby-de-la-Zouch, just before 21:30 BST on Saturday.

The crash involved a silver Kia Ceed and a black Nissan Qashqai.

Leicestershire Police said the driver of the Kia - a man in his 50s - was taken to hospital and is continuing to receive treatment.

The driver of the Nissan - a woman in her 40s - suffered minor injuries, the force added.

No-one has been arrested in connection with the crash.

Det Sgt Jack Cornick said: “From what we know so far, the driver of a small silver or light-coloured car stopped at the scene but then left prior to emergency services arriving.

“We’re particularly keen to speak to that person about what they saw or any dashcam footage they might’ve captured. If that was you, I’d urge you to get in touch with us as soon as you can.

“I’m also appealing for anyone else who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand to come forward. Anything you’re able to tell us could help."
