Eligible families are due to be sent a £10 supermarket voucher in time for the half-term break

Families are to receive £10 supermarket vouchers to help them cope with the rising cost of living.

About 13,000 children and young people in the Peterborough City Council area are eligible.

Vouchers are due to be sent out by text and email on 25 May and a council spokesperson said vouchers must be activated by 21 June.

Conservative cabinet member for children’s services Ray Bisby hoped it would support "vulnerable families" in feeding their children during the half-term break.

Eligible families include those who receive income-related free school meals.

The vouchers will be sent out automatically using school data and information held by the council.
