Police are appealing for witnesses following a crash that involved a car and a pedestrian in Okehampton, Devon.
Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called to Exeter Road at about 16:25 GMT on Saturday, where it was reported a black Audi A3 failed to stop after the incident.
The force said a local man had been taken to hospital with what was thought to be life-changing injuries.
A man in his 40s from Lewdown was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. He has since been released on police bail.
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward and said officers were particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed a black Audi A3 in the area at that time.
