The organiser of a Christmas toy ride said he was "totally overwhelmed" by the number of bikers who joined the annual charity event.

Buster Spicer, from Sandown on the Isle of Wight, lead 208 bikes through the streets of Newport on Sunday.

The ride ended at St Mary's Hospital children ward, where the bikers dropped off presents donated by residents on the island.

Mr Spicer said that year was "extra special" as they also donated specially made toys to the Special Baby Care Unit.

He has been running the Christmas toy ride for eight years and said it welcomesd riders of "all types of motorcycles", including scooters, trikes and "even the old lady on a moped".

"When I got there, I was totally overwhelmed by the amount of bikes that were gathering," he said, adding that there were 208 bikes in total.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight NHS Trust said the bikers' support was "something we always look forward to".

"It is unfortunate for children and their families to be in hospital over the festive season, so being able to offer them a gift and seeing a smile on their faces really does make a difference," the statement added.
