More than 2,000 new homes were given the green light in major housing projects across a county during 2024.

West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) and North Northamptonshire Council (NNC) approved the building of 2,282 homes and flats in large planning applications of more than 50 properties.

The councils will also have approved more housing sites in smaller applications.

The largest approval was for 525 homes in Northampton where a new housing estate, called Hampton Green, will be created.

Other notable builds include 50 homes to be erected in Oundle, behind the town's cemetery, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The scheme was approved despite complaints from Oundle Town Council and 56 objections from members of the public.

In August 217 homes were approved to be build on an abandoned brownfield site off Ransome Road, Far Cotton, Northampton.

At the time councillors reversed their decision to defer on a decision following a report that said the plans were acceptable "on balance".

Richard West, a representative of applicant Tilia Homes, said the plans "deliver everything needed" for a "thriving development for local people".

In Towcester, 406 homes will be constructed on the edge of the market town.

At the time councillors raised concern over a lack of provision for affordable houses but followed the recommendation of officers to approve the plans.

Also in Towcester, 110 homes will be build near the historic Racecourse and the town's historic parkland.

One local councillor said the homes were not needed in this "sensitive location".

In Corby, 150 flats will be built on the site of a former Co-op supermarket.

The proposal for the development in Alexandra Road was previously refused by councillors.
