A pub has been destroyed in a blaze which broke out in the early hours of the morning near Doncaster.

Emergency services were called to Marr Lodge on the A635 Barnsley Road, Marr, at 00:50 BST on Monday, South Yorkshire Fire Service said.

One person suffered from smoke inhalation, with crews from Adwick, Doncaster, Edlington and Parkway stations, at the scene until about 03:45 BST.

A fire service spokesperson said an investigation into the cause of the blaze had begun.

A statement on the pub's website said: "We are sorry to announce that due to a serious fire at Marr Lodge; we will be closed for the foreseeable future.

"Once we have a timeline for the reopening, we will share this information on the website and on social media. Apologies for any inconvenience caused."
