Guernsey Post has completed installation of an automated parcel sorting equipment.

The post service has implemented the £1.8m parcel sorter at its Envoy House headquarters.

The sorter is believed to handle all mail formats up to 20kg, and optical character recognition which can read hand-written addresses.

Neil Pailing, Guernsey Post’s project lead for the procurement of the new parcel sorter said: “We have been working on the project for eighteen months which has also necessitated a significant redesign of our Postal Headquarters.

"In our first few days of operation, we have already achieved the 6,400 per item per hour maximum throughput of the machine, and we expect to reach a daily throughput of 30,000 parcels in the run up to Christmas.”
