Police are treating a fire at a derelict property in Eastbourne as deliberate.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) said they attended the fire on Seaside, Eastbourne at 03:30 GMT, and that three fire engines were sent to the scene.
Smoke from the fire affected "the flats above", the brigade said, but the blaze was extinguished with all people being accounted for and no casualties were reported.
Sussex Police are asking any witnesses to the fire to come forward.
