Care home's 'joke sharing' event for residents

Residents at a care home have been telling their wittiest gags at an Edinburgh Festival-inspired joke sharing event.

Lifestyle assistant Joanne Seavers at Flowers Manor in Chippenham, who came up with the humorous venture, said it was "great fun".

Residents Sue and Brian enjoyed the laugh-along. "To laugh you're happy and you make the best of what you've got" said Sue, whilst Brian said "it brings people together".

Deputy manager Gemma Morrey said: "Laughter's so important because even those with dementia can take part and be included."

Lifestyle assistant Joanne Seavers came up with the joke sharing event.

She said: "We had great fun, talking about our favourite jokes and laughing.

"It was a trip down memory lane for a lot of people."

Watching the residents laugh and enjoy themselves makes staff feel "amazing" she added.

"We (staff) spend a lot of time trying to make people laugh, it's really important, it builds relationships."
