Roads closed as teams deal with suspicious device

A police cordon was in place on roads in Bedford

Properties were evacuated after a suspicious device was discovered on a major road.

In a Facebook post, external at about 12:00 GMT, Bedfordshire Police said a specialist explosives unit was called to Ampthill Road, Bedford, where the device was found.

Cordons were put in place on Ampthill Road, Offa Road, Victoria Road and Sandhurst Road.

The device was later detonated at Hillgrounds playing field near Kempston and all roads were reopened.
