Team's record crowd at stadium for season closer

A women's football team got a record-breaking crowd for the last match of the season as it secured second place in the league.

One thousand four hundred and forty two fans were at Sixfields Stadium on Sunday to see Northampton Town Women draw 1-1 with Peterborough United.

The attendance beat Northampton Town Women's previous Sixfields record of 1,098, set in May 2024.

"[The fans] got us back into the game and lifted the atmosphere and the girls fed off that. I'm really pleased not only with the record crowd but the support, the energy, and noise. I thought they were superb," said Josh Oldfield, joint manager.

The result saw Cobblers women secure second place in the FA Women's National League Division One Midlands.

Peterborough took the lead before Hannah Samuels got the Cobblers' equaliser seven minutes into the second half.

Liam Williams, also joint manager, added: "Our fans are fantastic.

"Cobblers fans are always great, especially when it comes to playing Peterborough.

"They want to win that game as much as we do, so we're truly grateful for every bit of support we've had this season."

The draw rounded off a strong campaign for Northampton Town Women, who earlier this month lifted the county's FA Women's Cup with a 2-1 win over Peterborough United.
