A man who raped a woman in her home and then sent a message a week later to apologise for what he did has been jailed for more than seven years.
James Critchley, 31, of Wesham, Lancashire, raped the woman in her home early on 28 January 2021, Preston Crown Court heard.
"A week later, he messaged her, to apologise for what he had done," Lancashire Police said.
Crithcley, of Meadow Park, who denied rape, was jailed for seven years, eight months and issued with an indefinite restraining order preventing him from approaching the woman.
'Incredible bravery'
Det Con Stu Kane said following sentencing: “Critchley’s victim has shown incredible bravery throughout this process, despite the effect his despicable actions has undoubtedly had on her.
"I absolutely commend her for the strength she has shown.
“Critchley’s actions that morning were nothing short of abhorrent - he attacked his victim in her own home – the place that she should have felt the safest.
“I welcome the sentence handed down on him this week, which reflects the severity of his offence."
