A man lost his eye after his drug addict partner stabbed him multiple times in the head, a court heard.

Peter Krok, 21, had been in a relationship with Neil Swain, who was about 60, when the "spontaneous" and "explosive" episode of violence took place on 21 December 2023 in Derby.

The pair were in the bedroom when, after a disagreement, Krok reached for a knife, which was "always by the bedside" to clean his drug equipment, and attacked Mr Swain, Derby Crown Court heard.

Krok was jailed on Friday for 14 years after he was found guilty of attempted murder after a trial in July.

Row over cash

Mr Swain was attacked at his home in Fleet Street, Normanton, when Krok asked him for cash.

When Mr Swain replied to say he only had £60, the defendant was unhappy.

"Then you simply lost it," said Judge Shaun Smith KC, sentencing Krok.

"You were no doubt festering and sulking about not getting the money and went completely and utterly over-the-top."

Mr Swain's left eye was so badly damaged it had to be removed, and he now has a temporary one and finds it difficult to drive in the dark because of he lights.

He sustained five separate wounds to the head, which had to be stitched.

The judge added: "It is a horrific injury for a man to lose his eye."

He said Mr Swain was trying to protect himself, but Krok, of Glengarry Way, Derby, was "stabbing him perpetually to the head" until he grabbed the knife and it was thrown out of the window.

After the attack, the court was told, Mr Swain said the attack had affected his relationships, as people were always looking at his eye. He also bumps into others while out and has flashbacks.

"What you have done is changed his life," the judge added.
