Two pedestrians have been injured - one seriously - after being hit by a prison van in Doncaster.

The man, 77, and woman, 74, were struck by the DAF GeoAmey van on Doncaster Road at the junction with Coppice Avenue at 15:34 GMT on Wednesday.

South Yorkshire Police said both had been taken to hospital, where the woman is in a life-threatening condition.

Officers investigating the collision have appealed for witnesses or anyone with footage to come forward.

Confirming the collision, a spokesperson for GEOAmey said: "Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrians and their families at this time."
