Frimley Lodge Park reopens updated 3G pitch

Surrey Heath Borough Council said it used "existing funds set aside from when the facility was built" to pay for improvements

A Surrey council has reopened a "hugely popular" community sports pitch after a revamp.
The Frimley Lodge Park 3G pitch in Frimley Green, Camberley, was approved for an upgrade by Surrey Heath Borough Council (SHBC) earlier this year.
SHBC said the community facility had reached the end of its useable life after 10 years and work was carried out over the quieter summer period to minimise the impact on users.
The authority said it had used funds set aside from when the facility was built to upgrade the pitch.
The authority described the pitch as "a vital community asset" and said it achieved 90% occupancy in peak winter months, with local sports teams and charity groups using the space.
Environmental upgrades were also made including replacing existing floodlights with energy-efficient LED lamps to reduce energy costs and the pitch's impact on the environment.
Councillor Morgan Rise from SHBC said: "The 3G pitch at Frimley Lodge Park is a hugely popular facility for local people and supports our priority of improving the health and quality of life of our community.
"The new 3G pitch surface looks fantastic – and access to high quality sporting facilities is key to a healthier, more active population."
