Arrest after man in his 70s stabbed in city centre

A man has been arrested by armed police after a man in his 70s was stabbed in York city centre.

The incident happened at about 05:15 BST on Thursday outside the Moxy hotel in the Peasholme Green area, North Yorkshire Police said. The suspect is reported to have left the scene on a bicycle.

Following a search of the area, a 25-year-old man was arrested by the force's firearms support unit on Barbican Road just before 06:30 BST. Police did not confirm his suspected offence.

The victim was taken to hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The arrested man remains in custody.

North Yorkshire Police has appealed for anyone with information or footage to get in touch.
