People coming from outside London to watch the city's flagship New Year's Eve fireworks display will face a £5 increase on last year.

The first of about 100,000 tickets for London's annual New Year's Eve fireworks display will go on sale on 17 October.

Ticket prices for Londoners remain £20 and £35, but those living outside the capital will pay £40 (up 14.5%) and £55 (up 10%), depending on the tier.

It is the first of two batches of tickets to go on sale, the next lot of tickets will go on sale nearer the time.

City Hall said only tickets bought from the authorised outlet Ticketmaster will be accepted and that no official tickets will be sold by any other websites.

Last year's display saw ticket prices more than double for some viewing areas, from £20 to £50 for the 12-minute display.

The mayor's office said at the time the price increase was to comply with Martyn's Law, external, created following the Manchester Arena attack in 2017.

The reforms require venues with a capacity of more than 200 people to have a plan in place in case of an attack on their premises.

City Hall said ticketholders alone can generate more than £14m of additional revenue for London's businesses and economy.

London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan said: "It's a fantastic advert for our city and a huge boost for our hospitality and tourism industries, as we build a better London for everyone.

"The only way to experience this unique show in person is by buying a ticket, so I urge anyone wanting to attend to do this as soon as possible."

Those who are unable to secure a ticket can welcome in the new year elsewhere around London, or watch the display live on BBC One.
