A man has been arrested following a firearm incident in Plymouth, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called to North Hill at 05:45 GMT on Tuesday after reports of a man being shot in the chest with an air rifle.

A 45-year-old from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

An injured man was taken to hospital but has since been discharged, a police spokesperson said.

The suspect has since been released on police bail and the force said there was "no wider threat" to the public following the incident.
