A man has been taken to hospital with a "slash wound" following a knife incident in Plymouth city centre.

Police were called at about 03:50 GMT on Monday after reports a man had been threatened by two men with a knife near St Andrews Cross Roundabout.

Officers said they received a further call at about 04:00 from a member of the public reporting a man had been assaulted.

Police said two men had been arrested in connection with the incident. They have since been released on police bail until 21 January.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Area searches were carried out and two suspects were quickly located and arrested.

"At this time we are not looking for any more suspects in relation to this.

"A man in his 20s, and from Plymouth, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife or bladed article in a public place.

"A second man, also in his 20s and from Plymouth, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and threatening another with a blade or sharply pointed article in a public place. Both remain in police custody at this time."

Officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
