People were evacuated from their homes and roads were closed after a suspected gun shell was found.

Police said the alarm was raised at about 12:20 GMT after the discovery of the object at a property in Grantham Close, Plympton.

A Royal Navy explosive ordnance disposal team made an inspection and "deemed the item safe", said the Devon and Cornwall force.

Road closures have been lifted and residents have able to return home.
