Engineers are visiting each property in turn to perform safety checks and reconnect supplies

More than 600 homes are still without gas after a major outage on Tuesday.

About 2,180 properties in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, were affected by what Southern Gas Networks (SGN) described as an "unplanned interruption" at about 18:00 BST.

On Thursday night the company said the repair works were complete and it was going to each individual property to restore gas supplies.

About 650 properties still had no gas as of 15:15 on Friday. SGN said it would visit these properties "as soon as possible to reconnect your gas supply and carry out safety checks".

"We're making great progress in Woodstock today as we continue to visit affected properties to restore gas supplies," a company spokesperson said.

They added households would automatically receive compensation of £70 for each 24-hour period they were without gas.

"We would like to say thank you to all of those who have been affected by this emergency for your ongoing support and understanding," they said.

SGN said its customer centre at Woodstock Community Hall would remain open until 21:00

The spokesperson said information cards would be left at properties if there was no one in when the engineers called, and encouraged people to ring the number on the card to rearrange the visit.

He added that SGN's customer centre, which was set up at Woodstock Community Hall, would remain open until 21:00.
