Dog rescued from mountain ledge

A border collie had to be rescued after getting stuck on a mountain.

A man was walking down Crag Hill in the Lake District with his dog on Sunday at about 13:30 GMT when the animal got stuck on a ledge, Keswick Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) said.

The man called for mountain rescuers after being unable to safely get to the ledge himself.

"The dog was about 20ft (6m) up on wet slippery sloping rock," the team said.

They rigged a rope to lower a rescuer to the collie and then used a purpose-made rescue bag to lower the pet to safety.

The rescue, which involved 16 people, took four hours and 20 minutes.

On their way down the mountain, the team had to pull aside a fallen tree which was blocking a path.

"The urgent call of dinner gave strength for team members to pull the offending limb aside," the team said.
