Town sign to return after theatre refurbishment

A well-known street sign, welcoming people to part of Telford, will be returned once work on a theatre redevelopment is complete.

The "Oakengates, The Heart of Telford" sign was installed in 2018 to replace an older sign which used to hang on a local railway bridge.

Work on a multimillion-pound upgrade to the local theatre started last year, as part of a wider redevelopment of Oakengates and the sign will have to be put into storage during the next phase.

Steve Reynolds, the mayor of Oakengates, said the council was aware "signs like this mean a lot to local people".

The sign was installed on Limes Walk during celebrations to mark Telford's 50th anniversary.

The council said it would be "stored safely and will be relocated after all the refurbishment work has been completed".
