A 32-year-old man has been jailed for 20 years after he raped a child.

Mantas Gineitis, from Leiston, Suffolk, initially denied the charges against him before pleading guilty to five charges of rape of a girl and making threats to kill at an earlier hearing at Ipswich Crown Court.

Gineitis' crimes related to one victim and took place over a period of about 18 months.

He was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on Tuesday and was placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for life.

Temporary Det Sgt Jessie Langham-Fitt, from Suffolk Police, said: "This was an appalling and deeply distressing case.

"The profound impact it has had on the young victim cannot and should not be understated.

"I hope today's sentence brings some measure of closure to her and reassurance to others that we will do everything we can to bring sexual offenders to justice."
