A 17-year-old boy has been charged over the death of a teenager who was killed in a hit-and-run.

Alex Woodward, 17, died in hospital after he was hit by a car on Dawlish Drive in Bentilee, Stoke-on-Trent, shortly after 18:00 BST on Friday.

The accused, who cannot be named because of his age, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a road accident, failing to report an accident, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

The boy, from Stoke-on-Trent, was due to appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Tuesday, Staffordshire Police said.

A 20-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice has since been bailed with conditions.

Two other boys, aged 17 and 16, who were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, have been released under investigation.
