Metal replaces wood in £100k playground overhaul

A play area has replaced its wooden equipment with "robust" metal as part of a complete refurbishment.

South Hams District Council said the village play park at St Ann's Chapel, in Devon, had benefitted from more than £100,000 funding as one of its key priorities to "enhance the wellbeing of their communities".

It said impact-absorbing rubber and non-slip surfaces had been put down to ensure facilities were available in all conditions and that the park would "remain a safe and enjoyable space".

Councillor Julian Brazil said he hoped families would "enjoy this wonderful space for many years to come".

He said: "Investing in high-quality, long-lasting play facilities is a priority for the council, and this project is a fantastic example of partnership working between the parish council and local developers."

Councillor Cathy Case said she was "delighted to see the play park completed".

She said: "It is a huge asset to our village to have a park suited to all year-round use and our coastal environment.

"There are lots of local children in our parish who finally have a play park that is both challenging and fun, there really is lots to do."
