Police are appealing for witnesses after a boy was bitten by a dog as he walked through a Leicester park.

The 15-year-old was approached by a German Shepherd-type breed between Linney Road and Bishopdale Road, near to what is also known locally as Rainbow Park.

Leicestershire Police said the dog was on a lead with its owner when the incident happened between 16:00 BST and 16:30 on Monday.

The teenager sustained a "serious bite wound", a spokesman added, and required hospital treatment.

Witnesses are being asked to come forward by investigating officer PC Rae Sidat, who said: “This boy sustained a serious bite wound, which not only required hospital treatment, but an operation to close the wound.

“I would like to speak to anyone who may have seen this dog, or the incident itself to get in touch.”
