Man charged with attempted murder and burglary

A man has been charged with attempted murder following reports of an altercation on the Isle of Wight.

Police were called just before 06:00 BST on 6 September to a property on Victoria Avenue, Shanklin, where two men had been injured.

They were both arrested at the scene before being taken to hospital for treatment.

A 40-year-old man was later released with no further action being taken against him and a second man, James Hyde, 36 and from Ryde, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated burglary and possession of an offensive weapon.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court on Monday.
