They were each detained on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
A spokesperson for Counter Terrorism Policing North East said searches were ongoing at a "number of properties", but there was not believed to be "any imminent threat to the public in the UK".
The men arrested were a 31-year-old from Huddersfield, a 33-year-old from Leeds, a 34-year-old from Derby and a 49-year-old from West Bromwich.
