A man has been arrested after being seen with a sword in a McDonald's restaurant.

Armed officers responded to reports of an armed man at the fast food branch, in Ashgate Road, Hucknall, shortly before 14:00 GMT on Tuesday.

The suspect was challenged outside the restaurant and taken into custody.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon, police said.

A police dog was also deployed.

The sword, which was in a wooden sheath, has been seized.

Insp Tim Ringer said: "We deployed a large number of resources to this location in order to protect the public from harm.

"Thanks to the professionalism of the officers involved, this incident was soon resolved without any significant injures, and a dangerous weapon was removed from the streets."
