National Highways confirmed the road would be down to one lane throughout Wednesday with a full closure planned from 21:00 for resurfacing.
Drivers are being warned to allow extra time for their journey or seek an alternative route.
National Highways said the road was expected to reopen by 05:00 on Thursday.
Following the crash on Tuesday, delays of more than an hour and queues of five miles (8km) backing on to the M27 were reported.
