Two people were taken to hospital after a crash involving an ambulance and another vehicle.

It happened at about 20:30 BST on Saturday on Melton Road, at the junction of A46 and A607 in Leicester, while the ambulance was taking a patient to hospital.

East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) said two people in the car suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital for further assessment.

The patient was unhurt and was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary by another ambulance, it added.

No further injuries were reported, the emergency service said.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Leicestershire Police said officers attended the scene to manage traffic and close the road at the junction with Watermead Way, which has since reopened.
