An entire school in County Down has been evacuated because of what is being referred to as a "chemical spill".

Glastry College, in Ballyhalbert, Newtownards, says that as a "precaution we are asking parents to collect pupils".

BBC News NI understands that the school was evacuated as a precaution due to the spillage of a cleaning product.

The Education Authority is aware of the incident and is sending staff to the school.

In a message to parents, the school said pupils who cannot be collected will be supervised in the canteen which has been "deemed as a safe area".

It is expected that the school will be open again for pupils on Friday.
