Major road closed for pothole repair work

A major road will be partly closed every weeknight for three weeks while work takes place to repair potholes and cracks.
National Highways started maintenance work on a Suffolk stretch of the A11 between Red Lodge Interchange, near Newmarket, and Fiveways Roundabout, Barton Mills, on Wednesday.
From Monday the southbound route will be closed every week night between 20:00 GMT and 06:00 until 28 January.
The northbound carriageway will be shut during the same times between 29 January and 3 February.
While the road is closed for overnight work a diversion will take drivers heading south off the A11 at Elveden. They will then follow the A134 southbound to join the A14 heading westbound.
During the northbound closure the diversion will follow the opposite direction, taking cars on the A134 to rejoin the A11 at Thetford.
National Highways said the works were part of its national concrete roads improvement programme, external.
About 400 miles of England's motorways are made of concrete, instead of asphalt, and have a lifespan of 50 years.
The cost to repair the concrete road surface on this stretch of the A11 is £1.6m, according to National Highways, external.
It expects the life of the road surface to be extended by up to five years once work is completed.
