Revised plans for a family entertainment centre, cafe and apartments on a seafront have been submitted a year after the initial proposals were approved.

Sunderland City Council’s planning department has received a new application for the old Roker Amusements building on Marine Walk.

Seldons LeisureWorld received permission to bulldoze the old building to make way for a modern two-storey development in 2023, but as yet no work has taken place.

The new plans include increasing the height of the building and the addition of solar panels and a heat pump.

A planning, design and access statement said the building’s design would mirror the Pier Point development at Marine Walk, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service., external

The council report described the existing buildings as "tired and unattractive"

The council decision report added: "The demolition of the tired and unattractive amusements and the replacement with a sensitively designed building...will serve to enhance the character and appearance of Marine Walk, reflecting positively on the Roker Park Conservation Area."

It said the development would have "no undue impact on the living conditions of any neighbours" and would have a "good standard of accommodation".

In recent months, the project has been progressing behind the scenes, with several conditions for the development being signed off by city council planners.

A decision on the revised plans will be made once a period of council consultation has concluded and is expected in October.
