Police found almost 2,000 cannabis plants in a North Yorkshire barn

Two men have been arrested after a large cannabis farm was discovered in a Yorkshire Dales barn.

PC Heather Campbell and a colleague were alerted to the barn in Reeth by a member of the public who reported "suspicious activity" on Sunday morning.

The officers found almost 2,000 cannabis plants in the barn, which was divided into 18 compartments, North Yorkshire Police said.

Two men from Leeds, in their 40s and 20s, were arrested and remained in custody, the force said.

Insp Lauren Wilkinson of the Richmondshire and Hambleton Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “By being part of the community and through our great relationship with the public in this part of Yorkshire, we can act on community concerns quickly and decisively.

“That’s allowed us to take a significant number of cannabis plants out of circulation and arrest two suspects, all as a result of foot patrols and chatting to the community when we’re out and about.”
