A 29-year-old man has been jailed for a year after stabbing a man outside a city pub.

Matthew Swanborough launched the attack outside The Crown in Lincoln Road, Millfield, Peterborough, at about 22:25 BST on 23 September 2023.

Witnesses wrestled the weapon from him and managed to restrain him until police arrived, the Cambridgeshire force said.

Police said the attack followed an earlier argument inside the pub between Swanborough and the victim, after which the former was asked to leave.

However, Swanborough waited for the victim outside, Cambridgeshire Police added.

Swanborough admitted wounding with intent and threatening a person with a knife in a public place.

He was sentenced to 12 months in prison at a hearing at Peterborough Crown Court on Friday.

Investigating officer PC Yeli Zaicevs said: "Swanborough’s violent behaviour was unprovoked and cowardly, and the outcome could have been so much worse."
