A pub chain has been given permission to refurbish an empty unit in Glasgow Central station.

Owners of All Bar One plan to lease the space above M&S Simply Food in the station, which was home to Central Bar eight years ago and has been unoccupied since.

Pub giant Wetherspoons were initially approved to open a pub on the site but plans were dropped in 2022.

The new bar/restaurant would be the second All Bar One in the city, with the first located on the corner of St Vincent Street and West Nile Street.

Glasgow City Council said the refurbishment would not take away from the historical character of the building, which was set out in the original Wetherspoons plan.

Owners of All Bar One - Mitchells & Butlers - will rent the space from Network Rail and plan to follow a "similar fit out" to Wetherspoons.

They said they intend to make "minor" changes to the inside as well as adding new lighting to the main entrance.
