A man who claimed his housemate stabbed himself in the stomach with a kitchen knife has been jailed for murder.
Mohammed Ibrhim attacked Morteza Ajdani on 1 February at the home they shared in the Acocks Green area of Birmingham.
Police responding to a 999 call discovered 60-year-old Mr Adjani on the bathroom floor of the property in Warwick Road. He died at the scene.
Ibrhim was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday to 16 years and eight months, having changed his plea to guilty on the day his trial had been due to begin.
West Midlands Police said it found three kitchen knives in a sink and a tap running water on them.
Ibrhim, 45, told officers the victim had grabbed the knife and stabbed himself – supposedly because Mr Ajdani "had had enough of his life", the force said.
Following his arrest, CCTV footage revealed Ibrhim had confronted Mr Ajdani in the kitchen before arming himself with a knife.
Det Ch Ins Alastair Orencas, from the force, said: "We were able to uncover Ibrhim's attempt to cover up his crime and find the CCTV that ultimately led us to determine the truth of what happened.
"He's now behind bars for his actions and I hope his conviction eases some of the pain felt by Mr Ajdani's family and friends."
