Human remains have been found in woods near a hamlet.

They were discovered in East Fleetham near Beadnell, Northumberland, at about 21:00 BST on Sunday.

It is unclear how long the remains have been there but people living in the area report seeing a tent at the location over the past few months.

Northumbria Police said it had launched an investigation and officers remained on site.

The force is making inquiries to establish the identity of the body and the circumstances leading to the death.
