A motorway was blocked after a traffic collision, with queues going back to a junction used by an airport.

The accident took place on the M1 southbound in Hertfordshire, before 07:00 GMT, between junction 9 for Redbourn and junction 8 for Hemel Hempstead.

Traffic built up and queues later stretched back to junction 10 for London Luton Airport in Bedfordshire.

At about 08:15, traffic began easing, but drivers were still told to expect delays.
