A beloved nightclub will close after more than four decades, blaming a lack of local business.

Chasers nightclub, in Kingswood near Bristol, will shut its doors on Christmas Eve after being run by four generations of the same family since 1980.

A post on Chasers' Facebook page said Kingswood "just does not have enough foot traffic" and it must close "for good".

The post added: "Life is becoming expensive and hospitality has taken a huge impact because of that."

The owners of the club said they fixed "nearly every complaint" after returning in 2022 following coronavirus lockdowns - but said improvements to the industry and "Kingswood as a whole... has only progressively gotten worse".

The post , externalsaid: "In decades past hundreds of people were out beyond 10pm, today the high street may have only 60 to 100 people to share amongst every venue."

It added: "On a personal level we are saddened for Kingswood, we are saddened for all of the staff and we are saddened for the other venues struggling in hospitality."

The club will be shut for most of November and reopen only on Saturdays in December.

They said all previously booked private functions will still be going ahead until the New Year.
