A new housing development for islanders with learning disabilities has been delayed, Guernsey Housing Association (GHA) has said.

Lisa de Kooker, GHA chief operating officer, said there had been "minor delays" at La Vieille Plage at L'Islet, which will provide specialist accommodation for 14 people when completed.

She said the developers had "continued to make good progress" but there was "a number of standards the build needs to achieve before it can be handed over".

Ms de Kooker said the GHA was "taking time at this stage to ensure every detail meets the standards that the new residents deserve".

The project is being delivered in partnership with Health and Social Care, as well as architects DRP Architecture and contractor Rihoy and Son.

She said as a "specialist development" for people with learning disabilities, including those with complex needs, everyone involved in the project "understands that it must be done right".

"Our shared goal is to deliver a high-quality, safe and supportive environment – not just a place to live, but a home that supports independence and wellbeing," she added.
