Bradford City Village regeneration plans submitted

The plans are likely to see 1,000 new homes built across Bradford city centre

A planning application detailing a major regeneration project in Bradford city centre has been submitted.
The Bradford City Village scheme will create almost 1,000 new homes, a new public park and retail and community space, if it is approved by councillors later this year.
Most of the new properties would be built on the Oastler and Kirkgate market sites, which both closed in June, while others are proposed for nearby Chain Street.
The application, which follows a public consultation earlier this summer, states the project would create a "green, healthy, sustainable and community friendly" city neighbourhood.
Under the first phase of the proposed scheme, 97 homes would be built across Chain Street and the northern half of the Oastler zone, where the 1970s-built centre is likely to be demolished next month.
Later works would include the demolition of Kirkgate Market, with properties built in its place too, as well as the creation of a new park on Darley Street.
The scheme is being funded through a combination of £13.2m from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and £30m from Homes England.

Trees and green spaces will be part of the development
Street trees, planting beds and green spaces have also been plotted across the development.
The design access statement said the plans would "set the tone" for ongoing regeneration in Bradford.
"The proposal is to repurpose the City Village regeneration area to create a green, healthy, sustainable and community friendly city centre neighbourhood of up to 1,000 new homes," the document said.
It said the area would become "a place where people will choose to live, work and thrive and where businesses will want to invest, trade and grow".
If approved, work on the first properties could begin in the spring of next year.
