Dizzee Rascal visited Margate on Friday evening despite cancelling an impromptu gig.
Crowds gathered to see the chart-topping rapper who had urged fans to come to a free beachfront concert that was called off just hours before it was set to begin.
"Margate pull up got cancelled! So it was only right I came and said hello," said a video posted on the Sevenoaks-based musician's Instagram.
"Everyone lived happy ever after. See you in August at Dreamland," it added.
Music promoters Margate Summer Series said Dizzee Rascal had been forced to pull the plug on the concert, the Local Democracy Reporting Service reported.
In a public statement, it said: "Dizzee Rascal will be rescheduled due to filming taking place in Margate today."
Ward councillor for Margate Central and former mayor of the town, Rob Yates, had raised concerns the event could be "dangerous" with the sea nearby and no police, medics or planning.
Kent Police told the BBC there was a "small police presence" in Margate last night.
No offences were committed, no disturbances were reported, and no police intervention was required within this area, it added.
A video on Dizzee Rascal's Instagram inviting people to the "rave up" in Margate gained thousands of views in just hours.
The London-born rapper and Mike Skinner of The Streets are set to perform at the Marine Terrace venue on 29 August.
