City's heritage venues open doors for free

The heritage open days run from 12 until 21 September

Venues across Coventry will offer behind-the-scenes access, inviting the public to enjoy free tours, events, and activities.

From 12-21 September the city will celebrate Heritage Open Days allowing visitors to discover for free the city's history, heritage and culture.

This year's theme is "architecture" and the council said it was excited to highlight the only surviving gates of the medieval city wall, the Grade I-listed Ford's Hospital, and the 14th Century ruins of Bagot's Castle.

"We take great pride in calling Coventry our home and it really does have so much to offer," Councillor Abdul Salam Khan said.

"From Priory Row Cottages to the Kingsfield Orchard, we hope you will discover new places or expand your knowledge about our wonderful city."

Free activities and workshops at the River Festival Coventry, as well as an opportunity to view a film about the history of the Priory Visitor Centre, will also be on offer during the open days.

Heritage Open Days is a nationwide festival of history and culture curated by the National Trust and supported by local organisations who give free access to venues and experiences.

Councillor Naeem Akhtar said this year's theme would serve as a reminder of the city's resilience and spirit.

"Heritage Open Days connects us with these places and brings our communities together, inspiring a shared sense of pride and belonging," he said.
