Three teenagers were injured in a single-car crash that led to a major motorway near Glasgow being shut for nine hours.
The incident happened south of Newton Mearns at about 00:10, leading to severe disruption as drivers were advised to avoid the area.
The 19-year-old male driver of a grey Volkswagon Polo was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with life-threatening injuries.
Two passengers, a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, were taken to the same hospital.
The M77 was shut in both directions between junction five at Newton Mearns and junction eight at Fenwick, gradually beginning to reopen after 08:30.
Traffic Scotland had reported that the surrounding routes were "heavily congested due to traffic diverting with long delays", especially on the A77.
Bus journeys were also affected, and Stagecoach SouthWest apologised for delays to its X77 express service between Ayr and Glasgow.
Police Scotland appealed for information about the crash.
Sgt JimDewar said: "If you were driving in the area at the time please check dash cam footage to see if you have captured anything that may help with our investigation."
