An action plan has been agreed to ease the impact of flooding in an area of East Sussex.

It comes following flooding in the Denton area of Newhaven after drainage and sewage systems were overwhelmed.

East Sussex County Council, East Sussex Highways, Lewes District Council, Southern Water and the Environment Agency met to discuss long-term measures.

Denton Ward councillor Corina Watts said: "It is crucial that we work together to find a lasting solution."

A resident said the area has flooded almost every year since he moved in more than 50 years ago.

Desmond Pierce said: "It's frustrating more than anything and I think people are going to try and move [or] try and work out a way of stopping this water coming up."

A working group will be formed to look into the factors contributing to groundwater flooding in the area and to develop a plan.

Interventions could include an early warning system and improvements to infrastructure.
