A crash left a speedboat blocking the Tyne Tunnel, leading to major traffic disruption.

Vehicles at the crossing were held in both directions after two cars crashed and the boat, which was being towed by one of the vehicles, fell on to the carriageway.

The North East Ambulance Service said a number of people were checked over at the scene, but no one required treatment.

Traffic at the tunnel came to a standstill shortly before 19:00 BST on Saturday, with drivers advised to seek alternate routes.
