A man has been arrested on suspicion of escaping lawful custody two days after after he fled from hospital while on his way to prison.

The suspect, aged 46, had appeared before Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Thursday charged with drugs and domestic abuse offences.

He was later remanded into custody, but was taken from the court to New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, because of a medical issue.

According to West Midlands Police, just before 17:00 BST the man escaped private security staff before being detained in Wolverhampton nearly 48 hours later.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We would like to thank the public who shared our earlier appeal to trace the suspect."
